Seven Winters in Tehran directed by Steffi Niederzoll will open the International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala which will take place from August 4 – 9, 2023 in Thiruvananthapuram, India.

Reyhaneh Jabbari, a 19 year old girl has a business meeting with a new client. When he tries to rape her, she stabs him in self-defense and gets arrested for murder. Her trial results in a death penalty sentence. The film retraces the fate of a woman who becomes a symbol of resistance and women’s rights even beyond the borders of Iran. (IDSFFK 2023)
