46th Asian American International Film Festival – Opening Film 2023

Jamojaya directed by Justin Chon will open the Asian American International Film Festival which will take place from July 26 until August 6, 2023 in New York, USA.

Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at the Museum of the Moving Image (36-01 35 Ave, Astoria, NY, USA).

A father-son relationship is put to the test when an up-and-coming rapper at the crossroads of his career decides to let go of his manager, who is also his father. This decision forces them to confront the past and figure out what they want from each other. (AAIFF 2023)

About the director:
Justin Chon is a Korean-American director, writer, and actor. In 2017, Chon made his directorial debut with the critically acclaimed film GOOK (AAIFF40), winning the Audience Award and the Next Innovator Award at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. Subsequent feature films include MS. PURPLE (AAIFF42) and BLUE BAYOU (AAIFF44), both premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in 2019 and 2021, respectively. Chon’s television work includes Apple’s TV series “Pachinko” and “Chief of War,” the latter having just finished production. Chon has screened other films at previous AAIFFs, including BLUE BAYOU in 2021 (AAIFF44), MS. PURPLE in 2019 (AAIFF42), and GOOK in 2017 (AAIFF40).
