
Beau is Afraid directed by Ari Aster will open the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) which will take place from June 29 until July 9, 2023 in Bucheon, Korea.

The film depicts the strange journey of Beau, as he confronts his memories, fantasies, and realities in his quest to meet his mother. The director himself described the film as his most personal project reflecting his own personality and humor, which he has been developing for a decade. About the director:
Ari ASTER is an American film director, screenwriter, and producer. He is known for writing and directing the A24 horror films Hereditary and Midsommar. He earned the title of “Modern Horror Master” with just two films. Both of these films belong to a Trauma Duology that reflects director’s own traumas. Hereditary was crafted based on the sorrow he experienced within his family, while Midsommar also garnered attention for its exploration of emotions stemming from his personal trauma of a breakup. He is also famous as Korean film enthusiast, and he has confessed to drawing a lot of inspiration from Korean films in his works. He has openly expressed a special affection for Korean cinema, even mentioning his reference to Korean films when contemplating the narrative delivery. His highly anticipated third film, Beau Is Afraid will meet Korean audiences as the opening film of BIFAN 2023.
