Ulju-gun in Ulsan Metropolitan City has long been known for its local residents who have lived harmoniously with the beauty of the natural environment. The nation’s first international mountain film festival will be held in Ulju-gun in 2016. Ulju-gun is the highest, widest, and deepest area of the Yeongnam Alps with seven steep peaks, all of which are as high as 1,000 meters.
Ulju-gun has been hosting the world tour Ulju screening of the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival since 2012. There are tens of regular movie festivals in various forms in Korea. However, Ulju Mountain Film Festival is the first event held in Korea with a theme of mountains on an international scale.
The Ulju Mountain Film Festival is an unfamiliar theme-oriented event in Korea. However, there are many historic mountain movie festivals in the world. The Trento Film Festival, the mountain movie festival held in the highest area in the world starting from 1952, represents Europe. In addition, Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival starting in 1976 in North America are matchless in the field.
Prior to the Ulju Mountain Film Festival to be held in 2016, the Pre-Festival of the Ulju Mountain Film Festival is to be held for five days from August 28th to September 1st in 2015. The Pre-Festival will offer famous movies dealing with such themes as mountain sports, mountain culture, nature, and the environment. It will also offer a variety of events providing visitors an opportunity to enjoy the mountains and nature. Cinema camping will offer visitors a chance to be able to count stars, watch movies, and enjoy the mountain at Ulju, which is the highest place, boasting a grandiose landscape, in Yeongnam Alps.
