Delhi International Queer Film Festival is being held in the national capital area of India, a country whose Apex Court re-criminalized homosexuality in 2013 as Miniscule Minority. With this project, we aim to re-ignite the LGBTQ movement for equal human rights. Along with reclaiming our rights for equality and freedom of expression, with DIQTFF we intend to put the word out that LGBTQ Lives Matter!
Besides, the scope of the project gains further significance as we are planning a number of inclusive and outreach activities. Here, we shall also display the long-standing comaradrie with the straight allies, and also touch on important chapters like coming out, emotional well-being, and most importantly, sensitizing and reaching out to the families and other untouched (perhaps homophobic) strata of the society.
The event gains further prominence as it is being held at the same time when the Supreme Court of India re-criminalized homosexuality, and notoriously wrote off the lives and aspirations of LGBTQ Individuals as “Miniscule Minority.” Also, Since, the national capital of India – New Delhi has never seen such an event in years, the need and relevance of the project amplifies manifolds.
